Text: Mt 13:44-4644 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. 45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, 46 who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it. • These are two proverbs of Jesus Christ about the Kingdom of Heaven; the two proverbs are speaking about the same thing- The Power of Commitment. • Commitment is the state or quality of being dedicated to a cause of policy. It is a pledge or undertaking. It is also an engagement or obligation that restricts freedom of action. • Today, commitment is an endangered word. • What are the things you should be committed to?• Knowing God i.e. your Christian life; your salvation; spiritual gifts• Your spouse; your marriage; your family; your children; your relationships. • Your work; your career; your studies• Your country, your society, your community; your church. • Many Christians are backsliding, homes breaking up, people failing in life because we refuse to understand the power in commitment. • People are fearful to commit today for different reasons- ignorance; fear of being hurt; lack of trust; impatience; desire for freedom. • What Jesus was showing us in that passage are two examples of two committed people; one is not asking you to sell your things; it is not until you sell your things that you can make heaven. • Another important principles Jesus wants us to know from this parable is that the kingdom of heaven is a priceless treasure. • To emphasize the high price of our treasure, Jesus is telling us that if necessary we must give all in order not to lose the kingdom of God, and remain in it. • The tragedy of Christianity today is that many believers want so much from God and yet are not committed to Him. • Philip 3:8: 8 Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ• Until you are able to fully commit yourself to seeking the kingdom of God, you will be forever limited in blessings, and in authority and the power of the Holy Spirit. • Prov 2:4-5: 4 If you seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures; 5 Then you will understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.• Every revelation about God is a step to acquiring something from the treasury of the kingdom of God. • Everything that you are not ready to sacrifice for the sake of God, you will sooner or later lose, but whatever you are ready to give up for the sake of God’s kingdom will return to you later. • God is committed to you; but are you committed to Him? 2 Pet 1:2-4: 2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. • Do you seek after spirit gifts? Paul said we should covet the best gifts. • You cannot be committed to everything, so you must be wisely selective; you become effective by being selective.1 Corin 12:31: 31 But earnestly desire the best gifts. And yet I show you a more excellent way. • Do not live life carelessly and unthinkingly- be committed to God and things of God. • Direct your energies and resources to God and His Kingdom. • The Joy of commitment to God is that in the day of trouble when everything also fails, He does not; when everyone abandons you, He does not; above all, your commitment to Him and His work will secure your heaven and eternal life.
