Welcome to June and we thank God for the beautiful weather we are enjoying. Glory to God, summer is here. We thank God for the Workers Retreat in May with the theme: “The Profitable Servant” and we equally bless Him for the successful hosting of the one day Olympics conference on Monday, May 25, 2009. The attendance was impressive and the facilitator superb, although we had hoped for a greater number of people as it was a Bank Holiday. I would have thought that many more people would love to take advantage of that great opportunity to see what they can do for themselves. I began to wonder within me, “What is wrong with Christians; because it seems to be an assumption that wealth and Christianity are incompatible”. Could it be however that the problem is with black Christians who, though want to prosper financially are too busy making extra bucks during the holiday or are they just resting after overworking for sometime. Personally for me, it was an eye opener and part of the knowledge I came out with from the conference is that small businesses who are interested in getting Government contracts of £100,000 and less are advised to sign up to www.supply2.gov.uk website which will keep people informed of government contracts that are up for grabs. This is more than the purely Olympic contracts that many of us came to learn about. By signing up to supply2gov free online portal, businesses will receive up to date information about contracts they can apply for. The government contract market is worth £175 billion pounds so it is well worth joining this initiative.
We also thank God for the inauguration of the first black woman mayor in Waltham Forest in the person of Councillor Anna Mbachu, who incidentally is a Christian of Nigerian origin. It was indeed a privilege for Adonai Ambassadors Assembly to host her twice within the month of May; once on a private visit and the other in her official capacity. This month, no doubt, promises to be equally exiting, with the Sunday School Weekend coming up between 12th and 14th of June and the Men’s weekend, from 19th to 21th of June, the Fathers Day being June 21. As we, all know the Fathers Day is the day of honouring our earthly fathers. The greatness of a father is hard to define in sheer words. As Reverend Billy Graham, the Christian Evangelist said: “A good father is one of the most un-sung un-praised un-noticed and yet one of the most valuable assets in our society.” I would like to wish all fathers in the house an enjoyable and blessed men’s weekend and fathers’ day celebrations.
Finally, on June 27th, we have another Friends Together Initiative Meeting. I hope more of us will be available to attend and invite friends to this informal meeting where we come together to have a quiet evening chatting, eating and drinking together. My prayer is that in this month of June, whatever God has to change in your life to propel you to significance, He will do in Jesus name.
God bless you and have a wonderful month.
